Relax on the trip to the picturesque town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen located about 90 km south of Munich at the foot of Germany's highest mountain, the Zugspitze (2,962 metres above sea level).
On the trip to the Zugspitze you will pass by the
town where the Olympic winter games were held in 1936 and which is still
an important ski resort today. We will drive through a small mountain
village up to 1,000 metres above sea level until we reach lake Eibsee. From there we take the Zugspitz cog railway and a cable car to the summit. On a clear day you can enjoy a breath-taking panorama and, at the top, have a hearty Bavarian lunch in the summit restaurant.
After taking the cable car back down to Eibsee, wander through the charming heart of Garmisch with its attractive pedestrian zone and then take in the ski jump and the stadium built in 1936 in Partenkirchen.
On the return journey there is one more stop in what is probably the most famous village in Bavaria, Oberammergau. Oberammergau is world famous for its picturesque centre with painted house murals, called Luftlmalerei, and the numerous wood carving artisans. Before leaving you can visit the location of the world famous passion play held every 10 years.
